Microsoft closes Xbox Ambassadors programme after 13 years: the reason is "the evolution of the Xbox brand"
For 13 years, Microsoft has been running the Xbox Ambassadors programme. The programme's participants were tasked with supporting other gamers in the Xbox community, striving to create a positive and inclusive environment. Xbox Ambassadors had to meet certain criteria, including having at least a 1,500 Gamerscore and being at least 17 years old. Outstanding participants were rewarded with various nice bonuses, both physical and digital, but now Xbox Ambassadors is being closed.
Here's What We Know
Microsoft has recognised the valuable contribution of the Xbox Ambassadors community, but cited the evolution of the Xbox brand over the past decade as the reason for the programme's termination. The company announced that the seasonal quests for ambassadors will be discontinued immediately and promised to provide an update on its plans to expand the Rewards with Xbox programme and Xbox Research offerings.
In addition, Microsoft hinted that a new, more global way for players to share feedback directly with the company will soon be introduced, including the ability for select fans to participate in early access programmes for new games and features.
To ensure a smooth transition for Xbox Ambassadors, Microsoft will be hosting weekly events to allow members to redeem their "tickets" before the programme closes. Ambassadors' badges will also be updated with a special design, and active participants during the last season will receive a token of appreciation.
As the Xbox Ambassadors programme comes to an end, Microsoft expressed its gratitude for the contributions of its members and reiterated its commitment to supporting a positive and inclusive gaming community through other initiatives such as Fanfest, the Xbox Insider Programme and Rewards with Xbox.
The programme will be phased out from 19 September, and the site will be closed on 15 October.
