An enthusiast has adapted the TI-84 graphing calculator to work with ChatGPT and Internet access
Recently, a hacker under the nickname ChromaLock published a Youtube video showing how he modified a Texas Instruments TI-84 graphing calculator to connect it to the internet and use ChatGPT.
Here's What We Know
The video, titled "I Built the Perfect Cheat Device," demonstrates how, using a special board and an ESP32-C3 microcontroller, the calculator accesses Wi-Fi and can send requests to ChatGPT. Users can enter tasks on the calculator and receive answers in real time.
ChromaLock has developed its own software and hardware for this modification, which is publicly available on GitHub. In addition to the ChatGPT interface, the device also includes game downloads and other cheat tools such as image viewers and text cheat sheets disguised as software source code.
The hacker claims that his device can bypass anti-cheating measures such as checking or clearing the calculator's memory before a test. However, using ChatGPT during a test could be considered an ethical violation and/or a form of academic dishonesty, leading to serious repercussions in educational institutions.
