Experts: Camera Control button in iPhone 16 is unrepairable and requires replacement of the entire body
Apple has introduced a new Camera Control button in the iPhone 16 series, claiming that it is reliable due to its sapphire coating. However, repair experts point to serious drawbacks related to the possibility of replacing it in case of a breakdown.
Here's What We Know
According to iFixit, although the iPhone 16 has received positive reviews thanks to its new, easily replaceable batteries, the Camera Control button makes repairs much more difficult. It is welded to the inside of the case at two points and has its own integrated circuit that does not include the Touch ID function.
Phone Repair Guru also noticed that when trying to replace parts between two iPhones, the entire case is marked as a replacement part in the iOS 18 service history. Since Apple does not sell the Camera Control button separately, users will have to buy a new case if the button breaks.
Although the button is covered with sapphire crystal, its strength is only rated at 5-7 on the Mohs scale, which calls into question its durability.
