UK to purchase 300 large FPV drones for Ukraine as part of the Drone Coalition
The UK Ministry of Defence has announced a tender for 300 large FPV drones worth around £2 million.
Here's What We Know
The UK Defence Journal reported that the tender envisages the purchase of "up to 15 batches of first-person view drones, consisting of 20 drones each and associated options, capable of carrying a payload of more than 5kg".
The procurement of the drones is scheduled to be completed by 14 October 2024. Under the terms of the contract, the FPV drones are to be manufactured within four weeks of the agreement being signed.
The order also includes ground control stations and auxiliary equipment. All components, including the drones, will be sent to Latvia for testing.
The trials will last three months and will be used to assess the suitability of the drones for future contracts. If the tests are successful, it is expected that large-scale production will be possible with a potential capacity of up to 500 drones per month.
It is worth noting that the Drone Coalition for Ukraine is an organisation of countries involved in the production and transfer of drones to Ukraine as part of the supply of weapons and equipment.
