Apple Intelligence: iPhone will require 4GB of storage to use new features
Apple Intelligence will soon be part of iOS 18.1, and iPhone users may need to free up additional memory.
Here's What We Know
According to the latest iOS 18.1 beta, Apple Intelligence will require 4 GB of storage on iPhone 16 and later models.
Apple has announced that the new feature will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models. Additional requirements may apply to iPad and Mac models with M1 and later chips.
Interestingly, 4 GB is only the initial memory requirement for the initial set of AI features. Memory requirements will increase as new features are introduced, and it is unclear how much additional memory may be needed in the future. It is possible that in the future, the memory required for Apple Intelligence will increase to 8 GB.
Users of iPhones with 4-8 GB of storage should start making room, as limited space can lead to faster wear and tear on the drive due to frequent writing. If you're planning to upgrade to an iPhone 16 or 16 Pro, consider choosing a model with more storage and avoid the 128GB variants.
