Huawei launches public beta testing of HarmonyOS NEXT without Android from 8 October

Huawei has announced the start of public beta testing of its new HarmonyOS NEXT operating system, which will begin on 8 October. This is an important step for the company, as it launched a beta version for developers only three months ago.

HarmonyOS NEXT completely abandons the core Android libraries, which means that Android applications cannot be run on the platform. However, Huawei claims that it already has more than 10,000 native apps in 18 categories that meet 99.9% of Chinese users' needs.

The company is working with major partners such as Ant Group, China UnionPay, and iFlytek to expand its app ecosystem. The number of registered developers in the Huawei Developer Alliance has reached 6.75 million, a tenfold increase in five years.

Huawei is investing more than 6 billion yuan to support innovation in app development. The first devices to get access to the public beta will be the Mate 60 series, Mate X5 and MatePad Pro 13.2.
