At the annual Connect event, Meta announced a new budget Quest 3S VR headset, which promises to become an affordable alternative to the original Quest 3.

Here's What We Know

The new model costs $300, which is $200 less than the previous version, which sells for $500.

The Quest 3S headset has the same Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 processor and 8 GB of RAM, which allows it to run exclusive games, including the upcoming Batman: Arkham Shadow.

It also offers full colour transmission for mixed reality and comes with similar controllers.

The Quest 3S's external cameras are similar to those used in the Quest 3, with two RGB cameras for stereoscopic colour reproduction and four VGA cameras for hand tracking. However, to achieve a lower price point, Meta has cut back on some features. For example, there are no lenses with advanced performance and no 4K content. The basic model has 128 GB of storage, while the 256 GB variant costs $400.

The Quest 3S has a slightly better battery life of about 2.5 hours on a single charge, compared to 2.2 hours for the Quest 3.

Customers who pre-order any Quest 3 or 3S model will receive a free digital copy of Batman: Arkham Shadow when it launches in October.

Pre-orders are already open and shipping will begin on 15 October.
