UK sends new batch of 155 mm AS-90 self-propelled howitzers to Ukraine

UK continues to help Ukraine, announcing new military aid package.

This was reported on the website of the Government of the country. The new aid package includes 16 self-propelled artillery systems AS-90. 10 SAU are already in Ukraine, and the rest will arrive in the near future.

The AS-90 is a British self-propelled howitzer developed by Vickers for the UK armed forces. The AS-90 was put into service in the 1990s. The SAU has a calibre of 155 mm and is designed for long-range fire. It is capable of firing standard projectiles up to 24-30 kilometres, and up to 40 kilometres using improved projectiles.

The AS-90 is equipped with an automatic loading system, which allows it to achieve a high rate of fire - up to 3 rounds in 10 seconds. The howitzer comes with armour that protects the crew from shrapnel and small arms fire and with a powerful diesel engine that provides high mobility on the battlefield.
