Samsung has announced the release of the new SSD 990 Evo Plus, which complements the company's SSD lineup. The M.2 NVMe drive provides read speeds of up to 7250 MB/s.

Here's What We Know

The 990 Evo Plus is based on 8th generation 3-bit TLC V-NAND and Samsung's proprietary 5nm controller.

The drive has a nickel-plated heat shield that reduces overheating and improves energy efficiency by 73% compared to previous models. It is worth noting that despite the lack of DRAM cache, this drive has read and write speeds that are on par with DRAM models.

The Samsung 990 Evo Plus is available in three capacities: 1TB, 2TB and 4TB.

Speed and total bytes written (TBW) parameters for each model:

  • 1TB: sequential reads up to 7150MB/s, writes up to 6300MB/s, random reads up to 850K IOPS, writes up to 1350K IOPS, TBW - 600TB.
  • 2TB: sequential reads up to 7250MB/s, writes up to 6300MB/s, random reads up to 1000K IOPS, writes up to 1350K IOPS, TBW - 1200TB.
  • 4 TB: sequential reads up to 7250 MB/s, writes up to 6300 MB/s, random reads up to 1050 thousand IOPS, writes up to 1400 thousand IOPS, TBW - 2400 TB.

These figures are significantly higher than the previous 990 Evo model, but slightly lower than the 990 Pro.

The 990 Evo Plus SSD costs $109.99 for 1TB, $184.99 for 2TB, and $344.99 for 4TB in the US. The drives are now available for purchase through Samsung's official website, as well as third-party retailers such as Amazon, Micro Centre, and NewEgg. All models are covered by a 5-year warranty.
