A massive fire has broken out at a factory in India where iPhone parts are made, with production halted

A massive fire broke out on Saturday morning in the city of Hosur in India at a factory of Tata Electronics, which is one of the largest contract manufacturers of iPhones in India along with Foxconn.

The affected building in the factory where the fire occurred is where some parts for Apple smartphones are made. And the neighbouring building was supposed to start producing smartphones by the end of the year. This is Apple's fourth assembly plant in India, which was supposed to start production in November this year, although that deadline may now be pushed back due to the incident.

There were 523 employees on shift when the fire broke out. All of them were evacuated immediately. However, at least 10 people were treated and two were hospitalised.

In addition, production has been stopped and all employees have been sent home. It is not yet possible to assess the damage. A decision on when production may resume has not yet been made either.
