Apple launched its Apple TV+ video service at the end of 2019, and recently began showing self-produced movies in cinemas. However, this strategy seems to have been unsuccessful.

Here's What We Know

According to Bloomberg, after several box office failures, Apple will no longer show its films on big screens and will release them straight to Apple TV+. This is due to the disappointing box office performance of big-budget projects such as Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, Argylle and Fly Me to the Moon.

That's why the new film Wolfs, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt, has been cancelled in thousands of theatres worldwide and debuted in a limited number of theatres. And as of 27 September, the film is already available on Apple TV+.

However, some big films Apple will still show in cinemas - for example, in June, the film "Formula One" starring Brad Pitt will be released on big screens. He plays a former F1 driver who returns to the profession to train a rising racing star.

Apple had previously planned to spend $1 billion annually on films for theatres. That commitment has not been changed by the company, except that now that money will be spent not on a few expensive pictures, but on 10-12 more budget films. At the same time, Apple will still aim to do one or two big projects a year.
