The Chinese army has started equipping its self-propelled artillery systems with anti-drone "grills"
Chinese state TV channel CCTV has released footage of the 76th Artillery Brigade of the Western Directorate's exercises, which shows that self-propelled artillery units are equipped with these "grills".
Here's What We Know
The video shows Chinese 155mm PLZ-05 self-propelled artillery systems. The footage shows how the top, rear, sides and front of the self-propelled artillery systems are protected by nets.
Turrets, rollers, driver's hatches and the nose of the vehicles are covered with special structures that look like barbecues.
In addition, combat vehicles are protected in different ways, using nets of various shapes and designs. On some PLZ-05s, they look visually weak, while on others they are massive, sometimes multi-layered, with moving elements.
Based on this, it can be assumed that this decision could have been proactive, and the nets were assembled and installed by crews or repair units. However, we cannot rule out the possibility that such a decision came from above.
It is obvious that the People's Liberation Army of China is studying and applying the experience of the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, preparing for a potential armed conflict with the active use of attack drones.
