Samsung Electro-Mechanics has developed an ultra-small solid-state battery that could power future Galaxy devices such as the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds in 2026.

Here's What We Know

The prototype of this battery, which is currently being tested with corporate customers, has an energy density of 200 Wh/l. According to sources, this is the highest among batteries in the industry.

Solid-state batteries are safer and can store more energy than traditional lithium-ion batteries. This could significantly change the market for smartwatches and other wearable devices. If the prototype shows positive results during testing, mass production is expected to begin in the first half of 2026.

Samsung's mobile division could be the first major customer for the new batteries, and the Galaxy Watch 9 is likely to be one of the first devices to use them.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics has experience in this technology, holding more than a dozen patents in the field. The company's president, Chang Dae-hyun, emphasised that solid-state batteries are becoming increasingly important for green energy.
