Opera Mini has announced the expansion of its free Internet access, enabling even more users in developing countries to join its large community.

Here's What We Know

According to product manager Tom Lesnick, access to the Internet remains critical for many people in poor regions where data costs can be unaffordable. The browser is already successfully operating in Nigeria, South Africa and Ethiopia, providing users with up to 50 megabytes of free data per day.

According to Opera, about 125 million active users experience difficulties accessing the Internet every month.

Opera Mini on regular phones uses compression technology that reduces data consumption to 10% of its original volume. Africa is an important market for the company's development, as the number of new users of the browser is growing here.

In the near future, the company plans to expand free Internet access in Tanzania, Ghana and Kenya. However, despite these successes, Opera Mini faces some difficulties, in particular with video playback on regular phones.
