Swiss scientists have developed a four-legged robot that masterfully climbs stairs

Researchers from the Swiss ETH Zurich have developed a robot called ANYMal that can climb ladders. This robot, created by ANYbotics, is equipped with special end effectors that cling to the rungs of the ladder.

Here's What We Know

A key element of success is the use of reinforcement learning, which allows the robot to adapt to different types of stairs. The system has shown a 90% success rate in navigating stairs with an incline of 70 to 90 degrees and has increased its climbing speed by 232 times faster than its current counterparts. The robot is able to correct its actions in real time, allowing it to successfully overcome errors in estimating distance and step time.

These advancements expand the capabilities of industrial four-legged robots, allowing them to operate effectively in complex infrastructure environments such as factories and industrial facilities.
