Ukraine has caught up with all EU countries in terms of production of aerial vehicles

Ukraine has increased the production of self-propelled artillery systems "Bogdan" to 15 with a peak of up to 20 units per month, so we are talking about 180-240 per year.

Here's What We Know

The production of 2S22 Bohdan self-propelled artillery systems manufactured by the Kramatorsk Heavy Machine Tool Plant reaches a peak volume of up to 20 units per month.

These volumes of Ukrainian arms production were announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the opening of the Second International Defence Industries Forum. These figures are comparable to production in Europe, where rates of up to 180-240 self-propelled artillery systems per year are considered significant.

For example, the largest manufacturer of air defence systems in Europe is the French company Nexter, part of KNDS. The production of their Caesar system in April 2024 is 6 units per month, but it is planned to double this figure to 12 units per month, although the timing of the scale-up has not been announced.

In addition to Nexter, wheeled self-propelled vehicles are produced in the Czech Republic (such as the Dana 2 and Dita systems from Excalibur Army) and Slovakia (Zuzana 2 from Konštrukta-Defence). In the future, it is also planned to produce the RCH-155 from the German KNDS, which currently specialises in PzH-2000 tracked systems.

Speaking of the German PzH-2000 system. The Bundeswehr signed a contract for 10 units in March 2023. Production of these systems is scheduled for 2026.

The Zuzana 2 system was ordered for Ukraine in a total of 24 units. This order included 8 units, concluded in June 2022, and 16 units ordered in October 2022 from Denmark, Norway and Germany.

Under the second contract, the first two UAVs were delivered only in July 2023, and as of May 2024, the contract remained under execution. In parallel, a contract signed in 2018 with the Slovak Army for 25 units is underway.
