President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is currently capable of producing up to four million drones a year.

Here's What We Know

In a speech to representatives of a dozen foreign arms manufacturers, Zelenskyy said that Kyiv had already ordered 1.5 million drones in the first three quarters of this year.

This is already significantly higher than the initial target of one million drones for the whole of 2024. According to the plan, the total number of drones will only grow as the country builds a "virtually new defence industry" focused on rapid innovation.

It is worth explaining that before Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, drone production was almost non-existent in the country.

However, in the face of war, Kyiv was able to triple its total domestic production of weapons in 2023, and then double again in the first eight months of 2024.

"A few years ago, the Ukrainian defence industry looked, unfortunately, helpless. But now it is an industry that is on its way to becoming a leader, at least in Europe," Zelenskyy said.
