Often in search of information, users visit fake sites of supposedly well-known companies, where they may be in for unpleasant surprises, including malware.

To minimise this problem Google has started testing a new option.

Here's What We Know

In the media there was information that some users when searching for sites through Google began to see blue marks near the names of companies that own the site. When hovering over the tick, the message "This icon indicates that this business is who it claims to be" appears.

Apparently, the feature, which doesn't yet have a public name, is similar to the Brand Indicators for Message Identification option used in Gmail. In the messaging app, those businesses that have been verified receive an icon that confirms their authenticity.

For now, Google isn't sharing any information about the new feature, but apparently, if testing proves successful, it will launch in full scale soon.
