Android is testing a new Trade-In mode for faster verification of smartphones

Google is working on a new "Trade-In" mode for Android devices that will make them easier to verify and secure. This mode will use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) but will not allow unrestricted access to the system. Technicians will be able to quickly access the device's software and run diagnostic tests.

The exchange process for users will remain simple: you will need to perform a factory reset before handing over the device. However, it will take a few days to find out if the smartphone qualifies for the full exchange value. This is because the verification process is complex and involves many tests.

The new mode will allow technicians to quickly navigate to the right screen on the device and run automatic diagnostics. The adb shell tradeinmode enter command will bypass the setup process and put Android into "evaluation mode". Additionally, technicians will be able to run the adb shell tradeinmode getstatus [-challenge CHALLENGE] command to get diagnostic information about the device and see if it passes the evaluation check.

This innovation will significantly reduce the waiting time for users looking to trade in their old smartphones for new ones and simplify the work of technicians checking devices.
