Brazil's Supreme Court said Social Network X, owned by Ilon Musk, has failed to pay fines to the right bank, delaying a decision to reopen the platform in the country.

Here's What We Know

Social network X has been suspended in Brazil since late August due to its failure to comply with court orders on content moderation and the absence of the company's legal representative in the country.

On 4 October, X's lawyers filed a new request to restore services, claiming that all fines have been paid. However, Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the fines had been paid to the wrong bank and demanded that the payments be transferred to the correct account, after which he will seek the attorney general's opinion on the matter. X's lawyers insist that the fines have been paid correctly and see no need to consult the prosecutor.

The company initially refused to pay the fines imposed by Brazil's Supreme Court, believing them to be unlawful, but later complied with the court's orders, including blocking some accounts. Judge Moraes imposed a fine of 28.6 million Brazilian reais ($5.24 million) on X.
