Dutch Defence Minister Ruben Brekelmans says the Netherlands will provide €400 million for reconnaissance, attack and other drones for Ukraine

Here's What We Know

It has been announced that almost half of these drones will be developed in the Netherlands.

The country allocates funds as part of its own drone action plan for Ukraine. They are also working with the Ukrainian defence industry to develop advanced drones and accelerate the production of successful prototypes.

"The Netherlands has previously played a pioneering role in the supply of F-16s and Patriot systems, and we are now continuing this with advanced drones, with a €400 million investment in the drone action plan. This covers all types of advanced drones that can be used for reconnaissance, defence and attack. Especially in the air, but also on the ground and at sea," Brekelmans said in a press release to Defensie.

According to Brekelmans, the experience they gain in Ukraine is also of added value for high-tech in the Netherlands. In addition, if the drones they have developed prove successful, they will allocate more funds to expand production.

"The development of various drones is very fast. We don't have the luxury of taking too long, it's all about speed. Buy prototypes, test quickly, and scale up production quickly," he added.
