The scandals around Ubisoft do not subside. Now the company is accused of illegally transferring customer data to Meta (Facebook).

Here's What We Know

Ubisoft is facing a class action lawsuit, which states that Ubisoft uses Pixel in its store, which Meta describes as "a piece of code on your website that can help you better understand the effectiveness of your ads and the actions people take on your site, such as visiting a page or adding an item to their cart."

Simply put, Pixel is for "retargeting", which is a marketing practice that companies use to persuade people to make repeat or additional purchases. And at the same time, it also transmits customer data to Meta.

The lawsuit states that this is a violation of the Video Privacy Protection Act, the Federal Wiretap Act, and the California Invasion of Privacy Act.

According to PC Gamer, the plaintiffs are seeking financial damages and an order requiring Ubisoft to either get rid of Pixel or obtain users' consent to transfer their data.
