The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor that will be installed in the Galaxy S25 Ultra and other latest flagships will be significantly more expensive than both the previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Apple's latest A18 Pro chip.

Here's What We Know

According to the latest reports, the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 or Snapdragon 8 Elite will cost between $190 and $240, which is 20% more expensive than the predecessor Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 4-5 times more expensive than Apple's A18 Pro, which is installed in the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The main reason for the price increase is the rising cost of silicon wafers used by TSMC to produce chips using the second-generation 3nm process node. Meanwhile, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400, also manufactured by TSMC using the same technology, costs $155. Qualcomm has also developed its own Orion processor cores for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which also adds to the cost.

The aforementioned A18 Pro chip used in the iPhone 16 Pro Max costs Apple just $45. The price difference is due to the fact that Qualcomm sells its chips to third-party manufacturers, while Apple uses its chips exclusively for its own devices.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is expected to be unveiled at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii from 21 to 23 October.
