A new Android 16 feature will open any app on the screen in a pop-up window

Google is gearing up for a major update to multitasking in Android 16 that will allow any app to be placed in a floating window.

Here's What We Know

The feature, known as "bubble anything", was revealed in the latest Android 15 QPR1 beta. With it, users will be able to open any app in a floating window that will sit on top of other apps, making it much easier to switch between them.

Previously, the "bubbles API" feature introduced in Android 11 only allowed messengers to display messages in floating windows. However, its use was limited as many apps did not support the feature. Google is now testing the ability to put any apps in floating windows, which should improve multitasking on Android devices, especially tablets.

The "bubble anything" feature adds a "bubble" button to the context menu that appears when you long-press an app icon on the home screen. Tapping this button opens the app in a floating window.

However, the feature has yet to be officially confirmed and could be cancelled or unexpectedly introduced in one of the updates. In any case, the prospect of "bubble anything" appearing in Android 16 is of great interest.
