DeLorean hired Christopher Lloyd for a Time Capsule promo video: why this news is only of interest to the cryptocurrency world

Is the legendary car from Back to the Future, the DeLorean, making a comeback? Perhaps it is. DeLorean Labs, a part of DeLorean Motor Company (DMC), has released a video in which actor Christopher Lloyd, who played Dr Brown in the Hollywood trilogy Back to the Future, receives a courier (in the suit from the first film) who has brought him a Time Capsule, an unknown artefact from the future that plays a symbolic role in the video.

What's going on?

DeLorean Labs is trying to draw attention to its project, which is... to create a blockchain community and distribute 8,800 NFTs. And somewhere in the end, one of the community users should receive a brand new DeLorean EV in 2026 (i.e., possibly never).

DeLorean Labs aims to revolutionise the automotive industry by creating an active community through its tokenised ecosystem, including digital and physical collectibles, as well as creating a marketplace and protocols powered by the Sui Blockchain.

At the time of publication, the video had less than 50,000 views on YouTube, which doesn't look like a big hype (probably, they were hoping for more). However, judging by the list of publications on the DeLorean Labs website, it has attracted the attention of the cryptocurrency world only. Thus, the DeLorean Time Capsule itself is "a special activation dedicated to the appearance of the DeLorean brand on Web3, with 8,800 free digital (NFT) and physical collectibles with various prizes". Among the prizes up for grabs (in addition to the virtual NFTs) are DMC Nike Dunk SE 6.0 sneakers (a limited edition released in 2010), retro DMC apparel, a limited edition digital DeLorean that can be driven in Motorverse Web3 games, and "many more prizes and collaborations to be announced."

So far, all this looks like something in "blockchain language" for those who understand it, and it is unlikely that this story will end with something interesting. But if it ends with the release of the DeLorean EV in 2026, the gg editorial team will be very surprised.
