Samsung and Apple hold equal positions in the global smartphone market, while Xiaomi is getting closer to them: sales statistics for the third quarter of 2024 are presented
The analytical portal Canalys summarised the third quarter of 2024 in the smartphone market and published some interesting statistics.
Here's What We Know
According to the results of the third quarter, it became known that Samsung and Apple not only hold the leading positions, but almost equalised their influence in the smartphone market: both companies reached a share of 18% with a slight advantage of Samsung.
During this period, Samsung released new models of folding smartphones, and Apple introduced a series of iPhone 16, but its release has not yet had an impact on the balance of power, as sales of new iPhones began in late September. However, experts note that the American company is closer than ever to take the first place in the smartphone market, and in the fourth quarter iPhone 16 will certainly change the balance of positions. And over the past three months, it was the sale of iPhone 15 and earlier models that contributed to the success of the "apple" company.
The third place in popularity is occupied by Xiaomi, which captured 14% of the market and also recorded a significant increase in sales.
In addition, Xiaomi is not going to give up without a fight and is preparing for an offensive: recently presented a series of Redmi Note 14 for the Chinese market and a series of Xiaomi 14T - for the European market. The company will soon release the Xiaomi 15, which will allow the Chinese giant to strengthen its position in the last quarter of the year and impose a worthy competition on its Western counterparts.
Let's not forget that there are other significant players in the smartphone market. The top five leaders are OPPO and VIVO, which got 9% of the market each. Both companies aim to present devices with modern design and excellent features at an affordable price, which makes them as competitive as possible in the mid-range smartphone segment.
Note that Canalys is currently recording a trend of consumers' interest in mid-range devices declining in favour of expensive premium smartphones due to their AI capabilities and ultra-modern cameras - and this is another factor in favour of Apple's continued success.
