The Parliamentary Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy has supported the law introduced by the Ministry of Demography and Diaspora of Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
"We also expect the government to take a position on the creation of this ministry. We have 6 million citizens abroad, and it is obvious that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot and does not have the capacity to deal with their affairs fully," said Yevheniia Kravchuk, a member of the presidential party Servant of the People.
The main draft law, in particular, stipulates that within 3 months of the law's publication, the government must establish the Ministry of Demography and Diaspora of Ukraine. It also provides for the establishment of the Fund for the Restoration of Ukraine's Demographic Potential.
As a reminder, on 19 August, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the creation of a new institution at a meeting of Ukrainian ambassadors. Its sphere of responsibility will be ties and relations with Ukraine of millions of Ukrainians abroad and "protecting our common interests as a nation".
