YouTube is testing a revamped Premium Lite tariff - it's likely this option will be back soon
YouTube dropped the Premium Lite rate in 2023, but it looks like that option is coming back soon.
Here's What We Know
Users in Australia, Germany, and Thailand are reporting that when they sign up for a Premium subscription, they once again have the option to choose between the standard plan and its cheaper version.
Premium Lite is half the price of the basic YouTube Premium, but it doesn't switch off adverts completely, but only reduces the number of adverts.
In addition, such a subscription does not allow you to download videos, run them in the background on smartphones and will not open access to YouTube Music.
For comparison, YouTube Premium costs $16.99 in Australia, while Premium Lite costs $8.99.
Google representatives have confirmed that they are indeed testing an updated version of Premium Lite, but aren't providing any additional details.
