During the exhibition of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, which was held in early October in Kyiv, the Ukrainian company Frontline presented a reconnaissance UAV ZOOM, which in the future may become a replacement for the popular Chinese drones DJI Mavic.

Here's What We Know

After official China banned the export of drones from 1 September, Ukraine faced an urgent need to find an alternative, especially to replace the reconnaissance Mavic. And the Frontline team has provided it.

The new ZOOM drone is built on a proprietary Hertz control and video communications platform and can perform reconnaissance functions even under the influence of REB.

The main features of the ZOOM:

  • the drone is equipped with a 12 MP camera, which allows for detailed video surveillance and broadcasting of the picture in good quality;
  • 4x optical zoom allows you to shoot from long distances;
  • the UAV can stay in the air for up to 40 minutes;
  • maximum speed is 72 km/h;
  • tactical radius of action - up to 15 kilometres.

The ZOOM is part of a complex that includes a ground antenna and a control centre.

Importantly, the drone can hover at a position at an altitude of 200 metres and hold it even in the absence of GPS signal, thanks to the visual navigation module.

At the moment, ZOOM is finalising codification and preparing for mass production. The cost of the device is not disclosed, but the manufacturer says it will be comparable to the price of the DJI Mavic.
