The Turkish Ministry of Defence plans to increase defence spending in 2025 due to instability in the region.

Here's What We Know

As a result, Turkey's defence budget next year will be as much as $47 billion, which is 17.5 per cent more than in 2024.

It is worth noting that, in addition to the unstable situation, Turkey seeks to remain an important player in the Middle East and have its own means to support the deterrence forces.

By the way, Turkey is currently investing heavily in the development of its defence industry, which is becoming increasingly independent of foreign products.

The year 2025 may be a turning point for the country, as the adoption of the domestic main battle tank Altay, new drones, and the launch of surface combat ships are expected.

Therefore, to support the national defence industry, the new defence budget includes $4.5 billion to be spent on research and development.

In addition, Turkey is seeking to complete the development of a modern KAAN fighter jet, although the project is slightly delayed due to significant costs. To speed up the development, the country plans to increase funding and is looking for partners among other states that are interested in joining the project and partially funding it.

Turkey's defence industry is also growing rapidly thanks to export orders, particularly for unmanned aerial vehicles. The Bayraktar TB2 is in demand among European countries, and today, four European countries are among the 10 users of this UAV.
