In September 2024, Mintrocket, the studio that created the successful underwater adventure Dave the Diver, became independent. And now it has shared ideas about the future of the Dave the Diver franchise.

Here's What We Know

Jaeho Hwang, CEO of Mintrocket, wants to expand the Dave the Diver IP by creating new games dedicated to different characters that span different genres.

He also notes that independence will help him focus more on game development rather than pitching ideas and business plans to his parent company.

Hwang wants to complete Dave's story by telling both his backstory and the other main characters in the story.

As for the development of the studio itself, Jaeho wants it to remain small and consist of 20-30 people, as it makes it easier to communicate and be on the same page.

Flashback

Dave the Diver is a pixelated adventure indie game that tells the story of a carefree diver named Dave. During the day, he works as a diver and catches fish, at night he works in an exotic sushi bar, and in between, he explores a mysterious marine civilisation. Thanks to this, half of the game is spent exploring the underwater world, fishing, and solving secrets. And the other half of the passage will feel like an arcade simulator of a sushi bar, where the financial success of the establishment depends on your work.

The game has received 90 points from critics and 8.2 points from players on Metacritic, has sold more than 4 million copies and is available on PC, PlayStation and Switch. You can learn more about the game in our review.
