Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a next-generation flagship chip for Android smartphones

Qualcomm has announced its new flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which will be used in the next generation of Android smartphones.

Here's What We've Seen

The chip features an octa-core Oryon processor with 2 main cores clocked at 4.32GHz and 6 performance cores clocked up to 3.53GHz. It also supports 5300MHz LPDDR5X RAM and has 24MB of L2 cache.

The chip is manufactured using TSMC's 3nm process, which provides a 45% increase in processor performance and a 44% improvement in power efficiency over the previous model. The Adreno GPU gets a 40% performance boost, 40% lower power consumption and 35% improved ray tracing support.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite supports Unreal Engine 5.3 and the Nanite virtualised geometry system. The new Hexagon neural processor, with support for multimodal artificial intelligence, accelerates AI tasks by 45% with improved performance per watt. The chip also features enhanced image processing with HDR support, improved autofocus and video object erasure.

The Snapdragon X80 5G modem offers a peak download speed of 10Gbps and a theoretical maximum data transfer rate of 3.5Gbps. The FastConnect 7900 combines Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4 and ultra-wideband into a single chip.

The new Snapdragon 8 Elite is on its way to smartphones from Asus, Honor, OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, Xiaomi and other manufacturers.
