Samsung develops Galaxy Fold with on-screen blood pressure sensor
Samsung is working on a new project for its Galaxy Fold phone, which may be able to measure blood pressure.
Here's What We Know
According to a recently filed patent, users will be able to measure their blood pressure by simply placing their finger on the device's display.
The patented PPG sensor is integrated directly into the screen. The display pixels act as red and green LEDs used to measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation. The brightness and colour of the emitted light can be adjusted depending on the touch, which improves the signal-to-noise ratio.
It is worth noting that the accuracy of the data obtained is questionable. For example, the Galaxy Watch7 needs to be calibrated using a traditional blood pressure monitor to obtain accurate readings. Huawei Watch D2 uses a more sophisticated system with an inflatable cuff.
It is currently unknown whether Samsung plans to release this device. Patents do not always lead to commercial products.
