Ukraine reaches record highs in drone production
Deputy Minister of Defence Lieutenant General Ivan Havryliuk said that the Ukrainian defence industry had exceeded its drone production target.
Here's What We Know
The deputy made the statement to RBC-Ukraine on 23 October. Although the specific volumes of UAVs produced are classified, he said the plan announced by the President of Ukraine at the end of last year has been exceeded. Back then, it was about 10,000 medium-range strike drones, 1,000 drones with a range of over 1,000 km and 1 million FPV drones.
This is the best result ever achieved by the Ukrainian drone industry. Given that more than 1 million FPV drones were produced in 10 months (approximately 300 days), an average production of another 200,000 drones is expected by the end of 2024. This means that Ukraine will be able to produce more than 1,200,400 drones in a year.
At the beginning of 2024, the Ministry of Defence purchased UAVs worth UAH 30 billion, 95% of which were made in Ukraine. In the summer of the same year, the government allocated an additional UAH 24 billion.
As a reminder, 600,000 FPV drones were manufactured in 2023. To reach the announced million, manufacturers had to produce approximately 83,000 FPV drones per month, as we noted earlier.
