Indonesia has banned the sale of the iPhone 16 because Apple did not comply with the law requiring the use of at least 40% of local parts.

Here's What We Know

Now, residents of the country cannot buy a new phone in stores, but can order it from abroad or online, paying import taxes.

According to a representative of the Ministry of Commerce, Apple Indonesia has not fulfilled its investment obligations to obtain local content certification. This means that the company is unlikely to be able to rectify the situation soon.

Apple has a market share of more than 12% in Indonesia and sold about nine million phones last year.

The iPhone 16 lineup, which includes new AI features and improved cameras, has received positive reviews, but demand has declined. During the first weekend of sales, about 37 million units were sold, which is less than in previous years.
