Google Wallet will be available for children by 2025 with control through Family Link
Google has announced that by 2025, its Google Wallet payment system will be available to children. This new version of the app will allow children to make contactless payments on their Android phones.
Here's What We Know
Parents will be able to fully control the process through the Family Link platform.
Children will be able to use Google Wallet to pay for goods in stores, but access to credit and debit cards will be limited. To use the wallet, children will need to enter a PIN or use biometric data such as a fingerprint or face recognition. Parents will be able to approve the addition of cards and view transaction history.
In addition to traditional payment cards, Google Wallet for Kids will also support gift cards and event tickets, although ID cards and medical cards will not be available at the initial stage.
The company noted that the new version of Google Wallet is designed with security in mind to ensure that parents have control over their children's spending. After the successful introduction of the payment function on Fitbit Ace LTE devices, Google is looking to extend this experience to younger users.
The new functionality will be available in the US and several other regions next year.
