US announces new $425m military aid package for Ukraine

The administration of US President Joseph Biden has announced the allocation of a new military aid package worth 425m dollars to Ukraine.

Here's What We Know

This is already the 69th aid package from America, which will help Ukraine to stand up to Russian aggression.

The new US military aid package is provided under the Presidential Decrease Authorisation (PDA), which means supplying weapons from US army depots as soon as possible.

It will include:

  • Ammunition for surface-to-air missile systems (NASAMS);
  • Stinger man-portable air defence systems;
  • equipment and ammunition to combat UAVs;
  • air-to-ground munitions;
  • ammunition for artillery rocket systems (HIMARS);
  • 155mm and 105mm artillery ammunition;
  • tube-launched, optically tracked and wire-guided missiles (TOW);
  • Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
  • Stryker armoured vehicles;
  • small arms and ammunition;
  • medical equipment;
  • mine-clearing equipment and ammunition;
  • as well as spare parts, support equipment, services, training and transport.

The official announcement said:

The United States will continue to work with approximately 50 Alliance members and partners through the Ukraine Defence Contact Group and associated coalitions of forces and assets to meet Ukraine's immediate needs on the battlefield and defend against Russian aggression.
