The administration of US President Joe Biden has been criticised after it was revealed that it allowed Taiwanese company TSMC to produce chips for Chinese company Huawei.

Here's What We Know

The scandal emerged after one of the TSMC-manufactured chips was found in a Huawei AI processor, leading to a major conflict. Democratic Senator Mark Warner expressed concern about the lack of government oversight of export restrictions imposed in 2020. These rules prohibit the supply of advanced technology to Chinese companies, including Huawei. Despite the sanctions, Huawei has managed to get chips manufactured using U.S. technology.

Warner sent a letter to the administration pointing out "repeated failures in leadership" and calling for increased oversight. The U.S. Commerce Department said the country has never been tough on China, but the fact that Huawei produced the chips raises serious national security concerns. The Biden administration has yet to respond to the allegations.
