The German Air Force has announced the successful completion of the training of the fourth group of Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners who have mastered the Patriot missile system.

Here's What We Know

So far, there is no information on the number of people trained, the total number of trained crews, or the duration of the training.

At the same time, Germany has provided Ukraine with three Patriot air defence systems. The transfer of the last of them was announced in April, and it was put on combat duty in Ukraine in July. Given that in 2021, the Bundeswehr had 12 such systems in service, Berlin transferred 25% of its Patriot systems to Ukraine.

Given the limited number of these systems in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the completion of the training of the next group of operators is likely to be synchronised with the transfer of the new Patriot system. Potential candidates for the transfer include the United States and the Netherlands.

The third Patriot system from the United States received the status of "transferred" between 26 September and 15 October. As for the Netherlands, the country planned to transfer one battery jointly with another state, but no partner was found. Therefore, Ukraine will receive an AN/MPQ-53 radar and three launchers from the Netherlands.

To form a full-fledged battery, a command post, communication and support vehicles, and additional launchers are to be found.
