Apple is set to introduce variable aperture in the iPhone 18 cameras. This feature appeared in Samsung smartphones back in 2018.

Here's What We Know

This feature, first introduced in the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus, allows the camera to adapt to different lighting conditions by adjusting the lens aperture size. This improvement can significantly improve the quality of low-light photos and give more control over depth of field. This technology is still used in other manufacturers' flagship models such as the Xiaomi 14 Pro and Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects this feature to arrive in 2026 and will only be available in the iPhone 18 Pro models. Apple is also considering partnering with Samsung as a new camera sensor supplier, which could end its exclusive partnership with Sony. How true this information is - we'll find out closer to 2026.
