Sony sells 65 million PS5s and 77.7 million games in three months
Sony announced that it had sold 65.5 million PlayStation 5s by the end of the second quarter of 2024.
Here's What We Know
Despite the decline in console sales by 1.1 million compared to last year, the company compensated with a significant increase in games. In the quarter, 77.7 million games were sold, up 10 million from the same period last year.
Despite the price increase at the end of 2023, the number of active PlayStation Network users remained at 116 million. This contributed to a 9% increase in revenue, while operating profit increased by 73% to 445.1 billion yen ($2.91 billion).
The main factor behind the success was strong sales of games, in particular the role-playing action game Black Myth: Wukong, which sold 20 million units. By the end of the fiscal year, Sony expects to have successful releases of new games, including Assassin's Creed Shadow and Monster Hunter Wilds.
