In 2024, Ukraine spent over a billion dollars on the purchase of drones
Hlib Kanevskyi, director of the Defence Ministry's procurement department, said that this year the Ministry of Defence spent UAH 50 billion on the purchase of drones, including UAH 20 billion for long-range drones.

Five Ukrainian companies have already received long-term contracts for the production of such UAVs.
In 2024, the Defence Procurement Agency financed the purchase of weapons worth UAH 300 billion, including 50% of contracts with domestic manufacturers.
"In the near future, the Ministry of Defence's investments will become a good basis for attracting international investment, as there will be a ready-made production base that has been codified and has government contracts," Kanevsky said.
In April, the Ukrainian government allocated an additional UAH 15.5 billion for the purchase of drones for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in addition to the previous UAH 43.3 billion already allocated for this purpose this year.
During a press conference summarising the results of 2023, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine plans to produce one million drones in 2024.
For 2024, the Ukrainian military leadership announced a large-scale development of defence production with a focus on modern technologies, emphasising the crucial role of unmanned systems in warfare.
The Ministry of Defence reported that this year it plans to purchase about one million drones and create an international drone coalition.
