Honda and Swedish company GoCimo have announced the launch of a pilot battery exchange project for electric scooters in Malmö, Sweden. The aim of the project is to assess the viability of such a service in Europe

The pilot, which will start in February 2025, will use Honda EM1 e: electric scooters and Mobile Power Pack e: replacement batteries. It will be possible to exchange depleted batteries for charged ones at Honda Power Pack Exchanger e: stations.

Three such battery exchange stations will be installed at strategic locations throughout Malmö. For the pilot project, Honda will supply 30 EM1 e: scooters and 60 Mobile Power Pack battery swaps.

GoCimo's role in the joint project and future prospects

GoCimo, formerly known as GoCiklo, specialises in the rental of electric vehicles with replaceable batteries in Stockholm and Gothenburg. In a pilot project with Honda, GoCimo will manage service operations, customer connectivity and site acquisition for battery exchange stations.

The collaboration marks Honda's fifth battery sharing project. Previously, similar programmes were launched in Japan, India, Indonesia and Thailand. If the pilot project in Malmö is successful, Honda will launch similar battery sharing programmes in other major European cities.
