California traffic police tested the Lucid Pursuit, a special version of the Lucid Air electric car, which costs from $70,000 in civilian version
The California Highway Police recently tested a modernised version of the Lucid Air electric sedan, the Lucid Pursuit. The car received a number of police "accoutrements": flashers, metal front bumper and steel discs.
Lucid posted photos of the police electric car on X (formerly Twitter). The official images show the Lucid Air with modifications - classic two-tone paint scheme, a bear emblem (symbol of the state of California) and lightning bolts that hint at the electric nature of the car. The manufacturer is not sharing details yet, but hints that the combination of good range and power in the model makes it interesting for law enforcers.
What is known about the Lucid Air?
The Lucid Air does offer impressive performance: the base civilian version, the Air Pure, priced from $69,900, develops 430bhp and has a range of 420 miles (676km). The more powerful Air Touring at $78,900 accelerates from 0 to 60mph (0-96km/h) in 3.4 seconds and produces 620bhp, but the range is reduced by 14 miles (23km).
If the police budget allows you to turn around, the Lucid has even more impressive versions - the Air Grand Touring and Sapphire. The first version, even without police modifications, costs from $110,900, but offers 819bhp and a range of 512 miles (824km). For the most generous police departments there is the Sapphire version, which for $249,000 will give patrolmen 1234 hp and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 1.89 seconds. However, not every taxpayer will appreciate such luxury.
