Honda's smallest sedan will change its image in the next generation but retain its size
Honda has published design sketches of the third-generation Amaze model. The smallest sedan in the modern model range of the Japanese brand is preparing for a radical change of design, getting rid of some clumsy proportions of its predecessor.
For reference: Honda Amaze was originally created for the Indian market, where models with length less than 4 metres are especially popular due to the peculiarities of car taxation. The first generation of the Amaze debuted in 2013, with the second generation being launched from 2018. And the third iteration of the model will be officially unveiled on 4 December 2024, as announced by the Honda Cars India press office.
The next generation Honda Amaze will have more 'premiumness' and elegance, which is evident even from the first sketches. While such drawings usually embellish the reality, it is clear that in terms of looks, the model has got a more stylish and modern design. For comparison, a photo of the second-generation Honda Amaze has been added below.
Exterior and interior: what's new
The front of the car is highlighted by a hexagonal grille and elongated LED headlamps inspired by the design of Honda's larger models. Aggressive air intakes and sharp bonnet lines add dynamism. The taillights, reminiscent of the Honda City, also get blacked-out clusters.
The interior has a lot in common with the Honda Civic: horizontal air vents and a freestanding multimedia system display. It's likely to be the 10.25-inch touchscreen from the Honda Elevate crossover, with the same climate and steering wheel controls.
Technical details and competitors
You can expect the new Honda Amaze to get additional airbags and electronic safety systems as standard. Meanwhile, technically, the sedan will remain on the same platform on which the previous Amaze, which debuted in 2018, was built.
Engine-wise, no changes are expected, with the Amaze likely to retain the 1.2-litre 89bhp four-cylinder engine available with a five-speed manual gearbox or CVT variator. There is talk of a compressed natural gas (CNG) version. Competitors already have such modifications.
The main rivals of the new Honda Amaze are Suzuki Dzire, Hyundai Aura and Tata Tigor, which are also based on urban hatchbacks.
