Google adds RAW photo support to all Android camera apps

Google has announced an update for camera apps that will please all photography enthusiasts. Now support for the RAW format will be available not only in advanced apps, but also in simpler cameras on Android.

Previously, the ability to shoot in RAW was only available through the Camera2 API, which limited its use to professional apps. With the new update, Google is expanding this feature to all devices, including those that use the CameraX library. This change will allow more apps, including social networks, to offer high-quality RAW photos.

RAW and JPEG photos differ in several ways. JPEG files are compressed, which reduces image detail to save space. While RAW photos remain uncompressed, retaining the full amount of data from the camera sensor. This results in larger file sizes, but also higher quality images, which is ideal for post-editing.
