The first group of volunteers who joined the Ukrainian Legion in Poland signed service contracts, so the total number of applications has already exceeded 600.

Here's What We Know

The procedure for signing contracts for Ukrainian Legion volunteers took place at the recruitment centre at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin.

According to the head of the centre, each volunteer signed a contract in turn after reading the terms and conditions. Upon completion of the procedure, he congratulated the recruits on joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to Petro Gorkusha, a representative of the recruitment centre, more than 600 applications have been submitted to the Ukrainian Legion to date.

It is worth recalling that the legion was created in early July as part of the security agreement signed in Warsaw between President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk. One of the points of the agreement is the training of Ukrainian military units in Poland.

Volunteers can sign a contract for a specified period (three years) or until the end of a special period. After signing the contracts, the recruits will be sent to a training ground near Lublin, where they will undergo a basic course in accordance with NATO standards for 35 days under the guidance of instructors from NATO member states.

Ukraine will provide the Legion with uniforms and medicines, while Poland will provide the infrastructure, equipment and weapons for the training. The final decision on the full provision of Polish equipment to the Legion for possible deployment to combat positions in Ukraine is currently under discussion.
