"They work and will continue to work" - GOG shop launches new initiative to preserve and improve classic games
These days, the GOG digital shop is celebrating its 16th anniversary since its launch.
The site has always made it its main goal to keep classic games available on modern computers and has built its business on mutual trust with players.
The shop presented its new initiative GOG Preservation Programme, which is designed to provide games "eternal life".
Here's What We Know
GOG has introduced a special labelling for games, which informs that:
- the game is compatible with modern PC, controllers and supports high resolutions;
- GOG specialists have fixed old bugs in the games and improved their performance;
- GOG undertakes to maintain compatibility of the marked game with modern systems for a long time.
The Poles have already improved 100 games, including such cult classics as Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete, Resident Evil, System Shock 2, Myst Masterpiece Edition, Dragon Age: Origins, Diablo, The Witcher, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Fallout: New Vegas and many others. The full list of enhanced games can be found on the GOG page.
Each game marked Good Old Game is accompanied by a list of improvements, additional localisations and other information.
One of our main missions from the beginning has been video game preservation. For more than 15 years, that's what has driven us forward. But 2024 has clearly demonstrated how important this initiative is - and how important our role is in its continuation, as the restoration of Alpha Protocol and the original Resident Evil trilogy has shown.
The GOG Preservation Programme list will continue to grow over time.
