Meta has announced a 40% reduction in the price of ad-free subscriptions in Europe. Facebook and Instagram users in the EU will now be able to choose between a subscription for €5.99 per month on the web version and €7.99 on iOS and Android, down from the previous prices of €9.99 and €12.99 respectively. Additional accounts will be charged €4 per month on the web version and €5 on mobile devices.

Here's What We Know

Existing subscribers will automatically get a price reduction. Meta also plans to use less data to show ads, leading to less personalised ads for those who don't pay for subscriptions. These changes are due to requirements from EU regulators.

Users who opt for ad-free usage will be able to see less personalised ads based on the context of the current session and a minimum set of data such as age, location and gender. Meta hopes that these measures will help maintain free access to services for the majority of users in the region.
