Fans of the Star Wars universe will see a new trilogy of films, which, as it was recently revealed, will be directed and written by Simon Kinberg - the author of the first two parts of Deadpool, producer of Logan and director of X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Simon Kinberg will not continue the story of the Skywalker family, but will offer a completely new saga within the familiar franchise.

But, as it turned out, the first film of the trilogy, the audience will have to wait longer than originally expected by the film company Disney.

Here's What We Know

Disney has changed the plan of premieres for the next few years and now the release of the new part of Star Wars is expected not on 18 December 2026, but a year later than the specified date - 17 December 2027.

Probably, the postponement of the premiere is associated with the replacement of the director, remember, earlier it was reported that the trilogy will be handled by Steven Knight. Obviously, Simon Kinberg needs additional time to realise all his ideas.

Perhaps Star Wars fans will be pleased to know that The Mandalorian & Grogu is scheduled to premiere on 22 May 2026, which will be a sequel to The Mandalorian series. And instead of a new Star Wars instalment, the animated film Ice Age 6 will be released in December 2026.
